Shoko-ji Temple is located in front of Lake Tateshina, up in the highland area at 1200m.
It was erected by Toyota, the big automobile manufacturer, to pray for traffic safety to all drivers.
Inside the temple there are 300 somei yoshino cherry trees which every spring envelope the surroundings in a pink cloud. The high elevation makes it one of the few places in Japan where you can admire cherry blossoms in late April-early May, around the same time as Hokkaido.
