Tucked away in a lush gorge interwoven with waterfalls, Yokoya Onsen Ryokan is a traditional inn well-known for its ferruginous onsen baths. When coming into contact with the oxygen present in the atmosphere, the iron turns the water a rust-like color that can fade to orange or yellow once the iron sediment falls to the bottom of the bath. This is a cold spring, which means the water is naturally cold (about 19 degrees) but is heated up once it reaches the surface. The Yokoya Onsen spring is effective against anemia, PMS, rheumatism, neuralgia, skin conditions, etc.
The inn features a large open-air bath that faces a beautiful ravine encased by igneous rocks. The scenery is splendid all year round, but it is especially lovely in autumn when the gorge is enveloped in a whirlwind of reds, oranges, yellows, and greens.
