The museum tells the history of Chino through various exhibitions which focus on the locals' way of life and their close relationship with the lush nature of the Yatsugatake Mountains. The exhibitions touch many subjects such as geography, geology, history, folklore and industry.
Among other things you can learn about Suwa animism, the traditional saw blacksmithing of Shinshu Saws, the unique production of Kanten (agar agar)- a freeze-dry preservation food made in Chino for centuries- and the ingenious large-scale waterway system implemented in the Edo period and still in use.
