The bank of the Miyagawa River, near Suwa Grand Shrine's Maemiya, is a popular cherry blossom spot among locals.
The Takato Kohigan cherry blossoms here are the same variety as the blossoms at the world-famous Takato Castle Park in the neighboring Ina City. They have a deep pink color and are slightly smaller than Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms.
The trees at the bank of the Miyagawa River are historic cherry trees presented by the former Takato Town (currently Ina City) to commemorate the opening of the Ankokuji Tunnel on Route 152, which connects Chino and Ina.
Cherry trees line the bank of the river for 300 meters, making for a beautiful walking or cycling route, especially with the view of the snowy Yatsugatake Mountains in the distance.
