Ozu Yasujiro, film director famous for movies like 'Tokyo Story' and 'Last Spring', owned a cottage in the highland resort of Tateshina where he spent the last years of his life. Both a studio and living space, after his death the cottage has been turned into a commemorative museum called Mugeiso. The cottage is built as a thatched-roof traditional farmhouse and is worth a visit even if you don't know Ozu.
Mainly open on weekends during the summer. Admission is free.
